OLD GLOBE RECLAIMED WOOD COMPANY
Old Globe was created in 2007 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Wisconsin Woodchuck to develop environmentally responsible products from the reclaimed wood salvaged from the historic Globe Elevator. The rough-sawn dimension lumber that comprised the cribbed walls of the grain bins lends itself naturally to the manufacture of handcrafted flooring and paneling that qualifies for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) points. Ceiling and Wall Paneling
2x6 planks of reclaimed Eastern White Pine are milled into 5-inch-wide tongue-and-groove panels. We hand-rub the panels with natural Tung oil, and we can add beeswax for the luster of a traditional oil-and-wax finish.
Solid Plank Flooring
Our hand-crafted reclaimed floors are milled from either 2x6 or 2x8 dimension lumber. The Cadillac of the Old Globe flooring line is our hand-sanded “Rustic” surface, which preserves all the original character of the reclaimed lumber: circular saw marks, nail holes, ferrous stains, and other signs of the wood’s previous life.
Engineered Products
In 2009 Old Globe launched a line of environmentally friendly engineered flooring and paneling that combines the richness and character of our reclaimed wood with the dimensional stability of an engineered product. Our ¾" flooring has a 6 mm. wear course of reclaimed antique lumber pressed onto ½" of Baltic Birch plywood. The result is a floor board that will never twist or cup, even if it’s installed below grade or directly above a concrete slab. Like all of Old Globe’s products, it’s certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, or FSC.
Trim
We offer custom moulding, casing, base board, and other trim to match your flooring and paneling. Best of all, we can pre-finish your trim using our trademark hand-sanding and hand-rubbed penetrating oils.
Finishes and Surfaces
Old Globe flooring and paneling are available in hand-sanded or smooth-planed surfaces, as well as “Original” surface – exactly as the wood came out of the Globe Elevator. We can pre-finish your product using a hand-rubbed penetrating oil such as pure Tung oil or Danish oil.
